If you’re sourcing railings for a project, whether it is for a villa balcony, a community landscape, a commercial building or an industrial factory, you might have been confused by many different kinds of materials : wrought iron, galvanized steel, wood, wood plastic composite, aluminum … Each material has its advantages and disadvantages. However, there is one material that has been increasingly chosen by professional clients over the past decade, i.e. aluminum railings.

This article will explain in detail what exactly makes the aluminum railings so good one by one.

It is rust-proof, which is an inherent advantage.

As we all know, aluminum does not rust. What are iron railings most afraid of? Water, salt and humidity. But aluminum is different. The surface of aluminum naturally forms a dense oxide layer, and once the layer forms, it completely separates the air from the substrate. That is to say: the aluminum railings will not deteriorate from the inner side.

Premium welding technology.

It is quite common in most factories that the railings looked fine but after probably six months of installation, the welding points began to rust and the paint blistered. Where was the problem? The welding quality. The difference between good welding and poor welding, it is not simply “whether it looks good or not”, but whether it can withstand the test of time. For our factory, we have experienced welding workers and advanced welding robots to do the welding process.

Professional spraying procedure.

Whether the aluminum railings look good or how long they can last, 80% of the factors depend on the pre-treatment and spraying process. Many cheap aluminum railings look shiny when they are fabricated. But after one year, they start to fade; after two years, they begin to peel; and after three years, powder starts to fall off one by one. The reason is simple: the pre-treatment was not thorough enough.

Our spraying process are as follows:

The first step: Chemical degreasing.

Before the aluminum materials enter the spraying line, all oil stains, fingerprints, and cutting fluids must be removed. If not thoroughly cleaned, the powder simply won’t stick. We use a professional chemical cleaning tank, not just a random spray.

Step 2: Pre-treatment with zink-rich phosphating.

This conversion film acts as a “glue” between the powder and the aluminum material. With it, the powder doesn’t just “cover” the surface, but actually grows on it.

Step 3: AkzoNobel Top Powder Painting.

Using AkzoNobel powder coating, the electrostatic spray gun ensures that positively charged powder particles are evenly adsorbed onto the grounded aluminum surface, which realizes exceptional weather resistance.

Step 4: Performance Testing.

Conventional tests such as impact tests, scratch tests, and salt spray tests are conducted. Our standard is that the salt spray test duration should be no less than 1000 hours. It can withstand tests in coastal projects, high-humidity areas, and snow-melting agent environments.

You could buy an aluminum railing anywhere but the question is how much longer it’ll last. Our answer comes down to two aspects: welds that don’t quit, finish that survives real weather.
